Maybe you saw this otter yesterday on Yahoo! Most E-mailed , maybe you didn’t.  Sometimes it’s pictures of really really fat people.  Sometimes it’s pictures of John McCain making unflattering faces as he almost falls off the stage.  A lot of the time it’s animals doing/wearing/eating cute or funny things. Yesterday it was this small-clawed otter casting a vote for herring over shrimp.  You go, little dude, fight the power!

The sea otters in the wild lie on their backs and pry open shellfish and eat them, all just floating, bobbing in the current.  Saw it all day long there in Seward, Alaska on Prince William Sound.  One funny thing struck me about the scene - folks are saying “Awww, look at the fuzzy wuzzy otter being so adorable!”  while this obviously carnivorous animal was biting the heads off of Nemo’s buddies.  Odd what we can overlook while staring at a pair of big brown eyes surrounded by fur. Or how we can ignore the slaughter of lower marine life if one of these otters starts his own jug-band .

Well, I liked the voting otter yesterday, and I like it today.  Just like I loved America yesterday, and I love it today.  Defining our country based on George W. Bush or Barack Obama is folly.  (ok, I lifted that quote.  Dennis Miller said it.  that guy is super cool.)  And since I mentioned him, I’ll quote him again:  “In my sanctum sanctorum , I make Lee Greenwood  look like the Rosenbergs .”  Mr. Miller really knows how to say what I feel.  Except when he starts talking about strippers.  We differ on that subject.  Wonder how he feels about otters?

The Emmett Otter reference is very Dennis Miller-esque. I learned a new term yesterday, Dennis Miller Conservative — a person who is mainly libertarian, but supports the established conservative line on terrorism and national security. I believe I have just been labeled.
