Character flaws

Published by danyellewon under Uncategorized Edit This

I have character flaws!  Shocking, innit?  Here are two of my big ones: (that’s what she said)

1.  Condescension.  Also known as a “holier-than-thou” attitude.  I could make all kinds of excuses for it - such as the fact that I’m right and you’re wrong.  Buuutt, the problem with that excuse is that Jesus was much righter than I imagine myself to be.  RightEST.  Ever. And he was never ever condescending.  John describes him as “full of grace and truth.”  Which is a whole ‘nother paradox , personally.  He is perfectly balanced.  Me, I tend to err on the side of truth - which may sound nice to my ears, until I remember that erring on the truth side  means lacking in grace.  Oops.  Not so nice. Gross.

2.  Complaining.  Do I really need to explain this one?  I complain about my children - how they make everything dirty and bug me when I’m on the phone.  I complain about my hair being frizzy and my clothes not fitting.  I complain about having to do laundry and cook dinner.  It’s just such an easy trap to fall into.  But talk about lacking grace!   Where’s the gratitude?  How many loving couples out there spend countless hours in a doctor’s office and untold monies trying to get children like the ones that just fell into my lap? How many chemotherapy patients would just adore to have this full head of hair and clothes that actually fit pretty well?  At least they’re not hanging off my frail, sick body, anyway.  And to how many moms in Africa would clothes to wash and food to prepare - every day - be an unimaginable blessing?  Complaining is just so ugly on me.  Gross.

Well I wish I had a light note with which to end this post.  But I don’t.  Go read Dilbert or something if this seriousness - seriosity?- has brought you down.
